IDERD Award Nomination Deadline Extended to February 2nd 2018, 11:59pm
Who / What can be nominated for the IDERD recognition?
- Nominations are welcome for individuals, projects, programs, and activities.
- Initiatives can vary from direct work on race, racism and antiracism, to indirect work where race, racism and antiracism is specifically addressed as part of a broader focus on creating open spaces to foster racial equity, inclusivity and cultural diversity.
- Self-nominations are also permitted.
- You do not have to be involved in the project you are nominating for the IDERD recognition & profile, but it is important to inform the individual or project that you are nominating them and to obtain their consent. You may also need their assistance in completing the form.

2018 IDERD Conference Call for Abstracts
The Conference will address the theme, “Anti-Racism Change in Postsecondary Institutions: Resistance, Assessment, Measurement, and Accountability.” We invite abstracts for papers, workshops, video and poetry performances, and other artistic forms of activism that address the above goals and themes, which will be selected for presentation at a workshop or poster session. We are particularly open to dialogic forms of presenting information and inviting discussion and exchange of ideas. Deadline: All abstracts are due February 17, 2018.

#BlackOnCampusUofT: The Campaign, Combatting Anti-Black Racism
Last November, the U of T Black Students’ Association (BSA), Black Liberation Collective (BLC) and (National Society of Black Engineers) NSBE staged a Town Hall to bring awareness to anti-black racism on campus and demand support and change from the institution.
One of our demands has been met, while the rest are under works. We have been given support for a campaign against anti-black racism. This Wednesday we will get together with the community to create the content for this campaign and to make bridges with projects already underway in the community.
We ask that you come out, share your experiences being#BlackOnCampusUofT and bridge your connections with ours in making this a full scale community endeavour with lasting impact!!!

UT Chinese New Year Celebration Concert
UTChinese New Year Concert is a charity concert that celebrates the coexistence of different cultures all over the world. By bringing together musicians of various cultural backgrounds, our concert aims to tune music into the language that would break the boundaries among nations, races and religions. Over the past 11 years, UTChinese Network has raised $64,281 to help hundreds of children with their health and education by donating to UNICEF.
This year, the concert features an unprecedentedly strong and diverse portfolio of performers. To name a few, we have: Steinway Artist and Chopin finalist Leonard Gilbert, Budapest Gypsy Symphony Orchestra honorary life member and Hungarian Silver Cross holder Nandor Farkas, U of T Faculty of Music professor and Order of Canada recipient Joseph Macerollo, as well as the chamber players from the celebrated Toronto Chinese Orchestra.

Job Opportunity: Soar Indigenous Youth Gathering 2018 On-Site Coordinator
The Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education at the University of Toronto is excited to announce the 2018 Soar Indigenous Youth Gathering! This 5-day, March Break program (March 12th 2018 – March 16th 2018) invites a total of 20 Indigenous high school students from across Ontario to the University to participate in creative workshops and teachings, recreational fun (such as lacrosse, volleyball, yoga and more), leadership activities, outings to Toronto attractions, and more! Participants will have the opportunity to connect with the Indigenous community on campus, discover the services available to them, and discover what their post-secondary experience could look like.
The Soar program would not be possible without the help of dedicated On-Site Coordinators. The Faculty is looking to hire on-site coordinators for the 2018 Soar Indigenous Youth Gathering

SCARBOROUGH CAMPUS:
In collaboration with Hart House, Department of Student Life and Intergeneracial: From Their Lips
Intergeneracial is a Black youth oral history theatre project that gathers stories from Black elders and brings them to life through a series of theatre workshops with Black youth.
This project creates connections between the young and the old, providing profound meaning in the present. Using the spheres of theatre, storytelling, arts, civic participation and education, this project provides an opportunity for diverse and underrepresented post-secondary students to see themselves and their ancestors reflected through From Their Lips.
The model for the production is based on empowering the youth who are involved, creating impact that extends across generations, as well as between performer and audience.

What is the Black Canadian presence and history in our country? Explore these ideas, and the issues of belonging, in the ROM original exhibition, Here We Are Here: Black Canadian Contemporary Art, presented by TD Bank Group, through the contemporary works of nine Canadian artists. Challenge yourself to think differently about the deep-rooted histories and enduring presence of Black Canadians, gain a new and multifaceted understanding of Canada, through these unique and visually compelling installations.
