SHINE ON – Activist Love Letters: A Workshop with Syrus Marcus Ware
March 22 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Activist Love Letters is a participatory workshop that encourages the audience to get involved in sustaining a movement and supporting their communities. Inspired by the powerful and often hidden letters that activists, artists and organizers have sent to each other – words of support and encouragement, words of rage and fear, cautions and inspirations alike – this project makes space to consider our own activism and that of the people we hold dear.
This workshop will be led by Syrus Marcus Ware. Syrus is a Vanier scholar, visual artist, activist, curator, and educator. He uses painting, installation, and performance to explore social justice frameworks and black activist culture, and has shown widely in galleries and festivals across Canada. He is part of the Performance Disability Art Collective and a core team member of Black Lives Matter – Toronto. He has won several recognitions including the TD Arts Diversity Award (2017), Steinert & Ferreiro Award (2012), and “Best Queer Activist” from NOW Magazine (2005).
Host: Michèle Pearson Clarke (Writer, Educator, Photograher, Filmographer)
