Q21: A Conversation Café – Ballroom & Black History

February 27, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

This week at Q21 we will be talking about the art of Ballroom and it’s connection with Black history and ongoing resistance against violence and marginalization by queer Black communities. We will talk about the Ballroom scene in Toronto and elsewhere today, and how art and performance can be powerful tools of self-expression and community-building. We will discuss:

– Who is an artist? What counts as art?
– Why and how do we find the strength to support each other and foster community in a world that is so challenging to live in? How do we use self-expression, art, and the communities that arise around these things to achieve this?
– Can you imagine being a parent, caretaker, or mentor for someone in the future? How would you want to shape the world so that the people you care for feel safe and supported?

We will be joined by Sebastiao from the Toronto Kiki Ballroom Alliance!

Q21: A Conversation Café is your weekly opportunity to converse and connect with students and guest facilitators about the topics related to LGBTQ+ community. Q21 will take place every Thursday from 3:00 – 4:30 pm. Each week will have a theme and a new guest facilitator.
