Before Malcolm X: The History of Islam in the Americas

February 10, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Join this event discussing Black Muslim history by Mustafa Briggs in conversation with Imam Yasin Dwyer.

For most people, the history of Islam in America starts with Malcolm X and The Civil Rights Movement, but how many of us know about the Muslim travellers and explorers who came before Columbus? Or the enslaved West African princes and scholars who left behind diaries and treatises in perfect Arabic? Or the Muslim warriors who fought for freedom in South America and The Caribbean before the abolition of slavery? Following on from the world renowned international lecture series “Beyond Bilal: Black History in Islam”, Mustafa Briggs aims to explore all of this and more in his new lecture series “Before Malcolm X: The History of Islam in the Americas”

Refreshments will be provided!

This event is free. Registration is required.
