At the University of Toronto, we are committed to fostering inclusive working and learning environments that lead to a greater sense of community and belonging for students, staff, faculty, and librarians. In line with our institutional commitments to equity, diversity and inclusion including recommendations from the Anti-Asian Racism Working Group, this webpage has been created to promote and raise awareness of educational and supportive resources at U of T that are available to diverse Asian community members and the broader University community.

Asian Computations: Consciousness, liveliness, emergent subjectivities

With the rapid development of large language models, the availability of AI systems, and the burgeoning competition around the development and building of such systems, insufficient thought has been given to the range of possible uses and misuses and next generation developments in the technology. However, speculative fiction has had a long history of thinking about these subjects. This symposium will feature Asian Canadian futurist writers speaking on Asian Canadian speculative fiction and artificial intelligence.

Innis College Asian Heritage Month Film Festival 2026

Reelworld Screen Institute is honoured to celebrate its partnership with Asian Heritage Month. The Asian Heritage Month Film Festival, held in collaboration with Reelworld Film Festival, presents a curated program about families across borders. The event will feature a Shorts and Series Programme in addition to a Q/A featuring the filmmakers, moderated by Zaarin Bushra. Selected films will immerse audiences in narratives that address the lived experiences of Asian Canadians, offering a deeper understanding of the ongoing impact of anti-Asian racism and other forms of discrimination.

LiterASIAN Toronto 2026: Re-Generation

Celebrate Asian Canadian literature and discover the next wave of voices. This year’s theme, Re-Generation, reflects cycles of renewal and growth, inviting both newly published and established authors to draw inspiration from those who came before while reimagining the possibilities of Asian Canadian literature.

Research and Academic Resources

The Asian Institute is one of the world’s leading centers of research excellence in Asian Studies. With over 100 affiliated scholars working across the humanities and social sciences, the Asian Institute convenes and leads cross-regional, interdisciplinary research on Asia.

The Centre for South Asian Critical Humanities (CSACH) at the University of Toronto Mississauga promotes greater understanding of South Asia through vibrant and informed conversations of the region’s politics, cultures, histories, languages, religions and peoples. The Centre supports a wide range of activities related to the countries of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh including colloquia, public lectures, creative performances, and research affiliations.

The Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) is a global hub for critical conversations across the humanities and social sciences on South Asian worlds, both inside and outside the subcontinent.

The Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library is proud to be the intellectual and cultural centre of the academic community for East Asian and Asian Canadian-related studies and programs at the University of Toronto. Working with our collections and communities, our librarians and library staff continue to work to support research, teaching, and learning at the university and beyond.

In 2022, the Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library at the University of Toronto also published the book Asian Canadian Voices: Facets of Diversity. The publication brings together 11 perspectives from diverse fields of research to share their remarkable stories, reflections and insights relating to Asian Canadian heritage and experience.

The library’s website also provides educational tools, including the Guide on Anti-Asian Racism: Asian Canadian History and the Asian Canadian Resources guide, aimed at fostering greater understanding and awareness of Asian Canadian experiences.

The Department of East Asian Studies provides students the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the languages, cultures, and societies of the region. The department’s course offerings engage the diversity of East Asian cultures, from contemporary film and politics to philosophy, and they critically examine the structures that define the area and render it an object of study.

The Digital Tamil Studies project at the University of Toronto Scarborough library partners with an international network of collaborators engaged in the digital publication and stewardship of high-quality Tamil-language materials. This project connects with researchers engaged in Tamil-language works and engages students, particularly those with Tamil language skills, in the development of skill sets used in digital collections and digital scholarship.

The Richard Charles Lee Canada-Hong Kong Library features a unique research collection on Canada-Hong Kong studies. It provides resources and space to accommodate the continuous growth of research interest in Hong Kong, and its relation to Canada and other regions in the world.

The University of Toronto Press has a curated list of books related to Asian Studies.

UTSC staff and librarians have assembled an initial list of resources that aims to celebrate Asian voices, educate on anti-Asian racism and history in Canada, and provide resources on eliminating racism in our lifetime.

The UTSC Health and Wellness Centre provides student-focused care that supports students in achieving their goals, promoting health choices and supporting the healing process.

UTSG Health and Wellness Centre

The St. George Health and Wellness Centre services strive to provide a safe and collaborative space that offers racialized students all the supports of a same-day counselling appointment, and can also provide support for healing from stress related to discrimination ranging from microaggressions to overt racist behaviors and acts.

U of T Telus Health Student Support

Students can also access the U of T Telus Health Student Support resource, which offers counselling support in multiple languages and counsellors from various communities (upon request).

The UTM International Education Centre provides a range of programs and services tailored to support and enhance the experience of our global students.

UTSC International Centre

The UTSC International Centre assists international and exchange students as well as newcomers with programming, support and guidance during their time at the University.

UTSG Centre for International Experience

The Centre for International Experience (CIE) at UTSG offers a range of programs and services to support international students as well as global learning opportunities.

In 2024, the Centre for International Experience, in partnership with the Innovation Hub in the Division of Student Life, created a documentary called International Students: First 48 Hours in Canada, which highlights the journeys of international students to U of T.

Southeast Asian Student Engagement – Student Life

Southeast Asian Student Engagement programming and support provides connections to academic, career, wellness and many other services to foster a sense of belonging and community. Within each area of programming, there is a focus on connection (to each other and the broader U of T community), as well as navigating barriers to access and inclusion.

South Asian International Support Group

The South Asian International Support Group is a space for international students from South Asia to connect with peers, share challenges and triumphs, and foster social support while building a sense of community. Open to South Asian-identifying international and domestic students.

Connections and Conversations is an affinity group for racialized U of T staff and their supporters. Connections and Conversations organizes campus specific and tri-campus events to encourage cross portfolio, cross divisional and cross campus collaboration to provide a community of support and opportunities for mentorship and professional development.

Health and Counselling Services for Faculty, Staff and Librarians

U of T is committed to supporting wellness in the workplace and offers access to timely and appropriate services for our tri-campus community.
